Mike Goodman, Surrey County Councillor for Bagshot, Windlesham and Chobham, and Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, highlights that Surrey residents help to save an extra £200,000 last year by recycling more of their food waste.
It costs local authorities less to recycle food waste separately, than when it's thrown in with the rest of the general rubbish. By putting food waste into your caddy, this helps the Council to save money and put this aside for vital services. If all food waste across the county was put into food caddies, it is estimated an extra £3 million per year could be saved.
The Surrey Waste Partnership, made up of the County Council, Surrey Heath Borough Council and the other district and borough council's in Surrey, has launched a new campaign to encourage residents to recycle even more of their food waste.
