A wildfire broke out on Chobham Common this afternoon, and thanks to the amazing fire crews at Surrey Fire and Rescue, the fire was under control by 18:30.
Commenting, Cllr. Mike Goodman, County Councillor for Bagshot, Windlesham and Chobham, said:
"I spent two hours on the common this afternoon watching our amazing fire crew bring the fire under control.
"It started after four and was first attended by the crew from Chobham who were having a BBQ with their families at the station. They saw the smoke and even before the alarm sounded were getting ready to attend. They were followed by a number of other crews from Surrey and a specialist unit from Rushmoor.
"The crews quickly managed to get the fire under control, and by 6:30 it was under control. Fire crews will stay on site until they are satisfied that it is out and will not re start.
"At this stage it is too early to know what caused it. However it is a reminder to everyone to be careful.
"Our thanks go to our fire crews who managed to contain the fire damage to just a few acres."
