Local residents and visitors are being asked by Surrey County Council (SCC) to have their say on the Basingstoke Canal Centre in Mytchett.
With SCC taking direct responsibility for the centre in April this year, it is now considering how best the centre can be used based on the needs of the community it serves, whilst in a manner that is financially sustainable.
Currently, the centre offers a wide range of activities including camping, boat hire, a children’s playground and a café.
Commenting, Cllr Marisa Heath, SCC Cabinet Member for Environment, said:
"The Basingstoke Canal Centre at Mytchett is a much-loved community asset providing access to public green and blue space for local residents and visitors.
“As with all community assets, the site carries a considerable annual operating cost and we want to ensure that any potential future investment is based on the needs of the community it serves and spent wisely, to deliver a financially sustainable facility that the community can get great enjoyment from.
“We’re keen to gain valuable input from current and potentially new users to help inform the future services provided at the Centre.”
The consultation can be accessed here, and is open until Friday 27th September.
