At the External Partnerships Select Committee at Surrey Heath Borough Council this evening (Tuesday 5th September), several partner organisations came before the Committee to present their work and answer questions from Committee members.
This was the second meeting of the Committee in this municipal year, having met previously in June.
External organisations in attendance included the Hope Hub, Surrey Heath Citizens Advice, the Basingstoke Canal Authority, the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership, Surrey Heath Age Concern, Camberley Central Job Club, Voluntary Support North Surrey and Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH).
Having met Michael Gove MP in July, MTVH were further questioned by Councillors on fire safety defects and the proposed remediation work to resolve this issue for residents at North Court in Camberley.
Commenting, Cllr Jonny Cope, Councillor for St. Paul's ward, said:
"Back in the Surrey Heath Council chamber this evening after a brief pause in meetings over August. Today was the External Partnerships Committee. The main purpose of this meeting was to hear updates from charities and other voluntary organisations who receive grant funding from the Borough Council.
"Our voluntary sector in Surrey Heath do amazing work in our communities and it was very interesting to hear about their successes as well as the challenges they are facing. But it is also important that we scrutinise our partners and make sure that the taxpayer money they receive is being spent well and that our communities are benefitting from the investments the Council makes."
