With the upcoming environmental improvement works on Deepcut Bridge Road, Michael Gove MP met the County Councillor for the division, Paul Deach, to see first-hand the impact this will likely have on the local area.
These works may also have an impact on the new school, Mindenhurst Primary School, as this is due to open around the same time as the works begin.
Commenting, Michael said:
"I have just had a very helpful catch up with local County Councillor Paul Deach at the Deepcut Café. Paul briefed me on the Deepcut Bridge Road environmental improvement works, which are starting this month.
"Paul also explained the likely affect on local businesses, and we spoke to some Deepcut business owners to hear their concerns about the potential impact on the local economy.
"We then headed across to the new Mindenhurst School so I could see first-hand the impact these works may have on the school, which is due to open around the same time as the works begin."
Paul said:
"I met with Surrey Heath MP Michael Gove in Deepcut to brief him on the issues that Deepcut residents, businesses and wider will face due to the environmental/highways improvement works scheduled to begin tomorrow and will last around 10-12 months.
"I introduced Michael to several businesses, including Deepcut Cafe , Milano57, The Frog at Mindenhurst & Deepcut Village Dental Practice. Understandably, all Deepcut businesses are concerned about the impact the works might have on their businesses. Michael and I were able to offer some reassurance that we would be available to them to assist should there be any issues. I was encouraged that Deepcut Cafe have opened up the rear of their business for their customers, which offers quite a large area for parking.
"Michael and I also visited Sam Armstrong (Academy Head) at the new School, which was in the final stages of being ready to accept 300+ very excited children ready to learn in their beautiful, brand new state-of-the-art school.
"There can be no sugarcoating that our village will have its challenges over the next 10-12 months. However, I want to reassure everyone that, as always, I am available to all residents and businesses should things become unbearable. I have direct lines of communication with the highway authority and the contractors carrying out this work on behalf of the developer of Mindenhurst. I am also in very close contact with the school."
