With the expansion of Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) by the Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) this week, drivers heading into Greater London from Surrey Heath will now face a daily £12.50 charge, if driving a non-compliant vehicle.
Surrey Conservatives have long been staunchly opposed to the expansion of ULEZ, as no mitigation measures have been put in place for residents in the county who will be impacted by Sadiq Khan's decision. For those making the short trip into the capital from Surrey, whether for work, for health visits, to see friends and family, or for leisure, they will now be liable to pay this charge.
This will also apply to those travelling to Heathrow Airport, with passengers likely to face ULEZ charges on top of the airport's £5 drop-off and pick-up charge.
Vehicles that are not compliant will have to pay a charge of £12.50 per day, with charging days running from midnight to midnight. If a driver fails to pay the charge by midnight on the third day, they will face a penalty fine. You can check if your vehicle is compliant here.
This expansion comes as the Mayor is set to scrap daily travelcards, and has ignored Surrey County Council's requests for meetings to discuss improving public transport provisions between the two authorities.
Heathrow is one of the nearby areas bordering the administrative county of Surrey where you will now have to pay the £12.50 daily ULEZ charge, if driving a non-compliant vehicle. Some of the other areas now within the expanded ULEZ are:
