Surrey County Council is strongly opposed to David Munro's proposals to raise the policing element of Council Tax precept by 5.5% for 2021/2022.
Despite the majority of the members on Surrey's Police and Crime panel (a cross-party organisation), the independent Police and Crime Commissioner, David Munro, has ignored all advice and pressed ahead with his agenda to increase the policing element of Council Tax precept by 5.5%.
Munro's suggested increase comes at a time when the pandemic has had a huge impact on residents here in our county. Surrey County Council and its partners have sought to provide support, financial security and certainty wherever possible to residents, and we’ve rightly recognised the challenges that residents have had to face because of COVID, both personally and financially. That is why our County Council are not increasing Council Tax by the full amount allowed by Government.
