The Local Resilience Forums in Surrey have issued a reminder to residents in the county to stay local and follow the lockdown rules from the Government.
In order to ensure the spread of this message, advertising message vans are touring the county’s popular visitor spots this weekend, focusing on areas that have been seeing high numbers of residents in recent days and weeks.
The vans are set to displaying reminders to people on the current guidelines; that people should also remember to stay local to where they live and only leave their home for essential exercise or shopping. This comes after reports of individuals from Slough having travelled to Lightwater Country Park.
Unfortunately, Surrey now has one of the highest infection rates per 100,000 people in the UK, with the infection rate across the county increasing by 46% between the 19th to 25th December 2020 and 26th December 2020 to 1st January 2021.
Latest figures highlight that cases across all of Surrey are continuing to rise.
The best way to prevent the spread of the virus is to adhere to the following guidance:
- Stay at home, and only leave for essential exercise or shopping
- Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
- Wear face coverings
- Wash your hands regularly
The Chairman of Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum, Steve Owen-Hughes, said:
“We need everyone to play their part at this critical point. Cases have been rising and there is no doubt that the virus is more transmissible than it was before.
“Therefore, it’s vitally important that we all stick to the rules and stay at home. If you’re heading out for exercise, please stay local to where you live and do not mix in groups.”
