Following a consultation with residents in Ash Parish, Surrey County Council Highways have stated they will not be proceeding with the proposed parking changes.
SCC Highways have concluded, however, that they will proceed with extending the double yellow lines on the north side of Ash Hill Road, outside the Ash centre Car park, in order to further protect the grass verge. Overall, this means the amount of on street parking in Ash is not reducing as had originally been feared from the original proposals.
Cllrs John Tonks and Nigel Manning have long been campaigning for car park spaces to remain, as from correspondence with local residents and businesses, these proposals were deemed as unnecessary. The changes would have adversely affected residents that have used these locations for parking for many years, as their own properties have no off-street parking.
If these proposals had been implemented, it would have caused more problems than it had solved, moving traffic elsewhere and leaving vulnerable households displaced from their vehicles, on which they may heavily rely upon for their independence.
