Road safety works are set to be undertaken on the A323, Ash Street, in Ash, with upgrades to existing infrastructure and a new controlled pedestrian crossing to improve access to Walsh Infants and Juniors school for pupils and their families.
These works, announced by Cllr Matt Furniss, Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Infrastructure & Growth, will see extensive upgrades including road tables to help control traffic speeds and relocating the bus stop to make it easier and more convenient for users.
Commenting, Cllr Furniss, said:
"This summer Surrey Highways will be implementing the road safety improvements on Ash Street from Walsh Infant School to the library and Jet Garage.
"This month I am pleased to announce that a decision to confirm the schools in line to receive the safety upgrades will be taken.
"New road tables, pavements and sightline restrictions are being installed to make crossing the road safer.
"The bus stop will be relocated to make access easier also.
"This means that Walsh Infants and Juniors on Ash Street will get a controlled crossing,
"This scheme was developed following a petition and reports of near misses and a pedestrian casualty near to a substandard narrow pedestrian island.
"Leaflets will be delivered to residents and businesses nearer the construction time."
