Michael Gove MP undertook a visit Sewage Treatment Works to see the upgrade works being installed to increase the storage capacity.
The £10 million investment by Thames Water the site will increase capacity, making the site more resilient in the event of torrential downpours and prolonged periods of heavy rain. These measures will help to reduce the number of discharges from the site.
Commenting, Michael said:
"Following my meeting with Thames Water in October regarding the discharges from the Chobham Sewage Treatment Works into the River Bourne, I have just been to visit the site to see the £10m upgrade works that are taking place.
"The upgrade works are increasing the storage capacity to make the site resilient to storm conditions, thus reducing the number of discharges of untreated sewage to the watercourse.
"I was pleased to see that the construction is well underway, and I understand that the site will see incremental benefits as the elements are completed and commissioned."
