Michael Gove has announced the winning designs for his 2018 Christmas card competition:
- Group 1 Winner: Giselle in Year 2 of Lyndhurst School, Camberley
- Group 2 Winner: Evelin in Year 3 of St. Lawrence Church of England Primary School, Chobham
At the end of September, in preparation for the festive season, Michael wrote to all of the primary schools in Surrey Heath inviting them to submit entries to the competition, which would be viewed by a panel of judges – Michael’s wife, Sarah, Reverend Bruce Nicole, and Surrey Heath Mayor, Cllr Dan Adams.
There were two groups in the competition – Group 1 for pupils in Reception to Year 2, and Group 2 for pupils in Year 3 to Year 6 – and on 2 November the judges met to choose the winning designs.
Designs from the children were impressive, with a huge variety of colours and techniques used, but after some deliberation, the judges agreed that Giselle's and Evelin’s pictures were the standout winners.
The winners' designs will now go to print, and at the beginning of December, Michael will visit Giselle's and Evelin’s schools to present them with a package of Parliament-themed prizes.
Michael said:
“I was delighted to see an array of such imaginative and wonderful Christmas card designs provided by the hugely talented children in my constituency. I would like to congratulate all those who submitted entries and to thank the teachers from local schools in Surrey Heath who helped make this competition a success.
"I must also thank the three judges, who had the hardest job of all in picking the winners amongst an assortment of such remarkable designs.”
