At the Planning Applications Committee of Surrey Heath Borough Council held this evening (Thursday 29th June), two applications came become the committee.
Application No. 23/0074/FFU - 29, 30 and 30a Brackendale Close, Camberley, GU15 1HP
This application related to the redevelopment of two residential properties, numbered as 29 and 30 Brackendale Close, into a block flats with 25 self-contained units with landscaping, new access created off Portsmouth Road created, and a parking forecourt for 25 vehicles.
A previous application for this site had been refused, with minor amendments on the current application with a redesign of the car park and a small reduction to the north east of the proposed development. The previous application submitted was for 30 self-contained units, and the current application is for 25 self-contained units, however, 23 of these units have two bedrooms.
A public speaker spoke in opposition of the application, citing reasons that it did not fit in with the area and was out of scale with the local neighbourhood.
Planning officers at SHBC recommended refusal for the development. This was proposed by Cllr Sarbie Kang and seconded by Cllr John Skipper.
Voting in favour of the motion to refuse: Councillors Betton, Garrett, Glauert, Kang, Skipper, Rowlands, White and Wilson
Voting against the motion to refuse: Councillors O'Mahoney, Wheeler, Thomson
Abstaining: none
Cllr Liz Noble arrived late to the meeting, and was therefore unable to vote or abstain.
Application No. 23/0217/FFU - 5 Cedar Gardens, Chobham, GU24 8PG
An application of this nature would typically not go before the committee and would be decided by Planning Officers as the delegated authority. However, the application was called in by Cllr Victoria Wheeler at the request of Chobham Parish Council due to the impact the proposed application would have on residential amenity.
This application related to the erection of a single storey rear extension with roof light.
On this application, our Conservative councillors agreed with the concerns raised by the Parish Council and Cllr Wheeler - that such an extension would have a detrimental impact on the local and expressed similar concerns over the design of the extension and the loss of private garden space.
Planning officers at SHBC recommended to approve the application, subject to conditions. This was proposed by Cllr Richard Wilson and seconded by Cllr John Skipper.
Voting in favour of the motion to approve: Councillors Betton, Glauert, Kang, Noble, Skipper, Rowlands, and Wilson
Voting against the motion to refuse: Councillors Garrett, Wheeler, White
Abstaining: none
