The Government has introduced a £2 bus fare cap from 1st January 2023 to 31st March 2023, with over 130 operators set to take part including Stagecoach and Arriva in Surrey Heath.
This scheme will see passengers being able to purchase a single ticket for £2 to any destination, which will help save almost a third on the average £2.80 bus fare.
The scheme is aimed to help people with the cost of living, and also encourage people to switch from taking the car to work and instead catch the bus. This could help reduce emissions and congestion by taking an estimated two million cars off the roads.
This initiative builds on the allocation of more than £2 billion to support bus services in England through the pandemic and a commitment to fund improved services, new bus priority measures and new electric or hydrogen buses as part of Bus Back Better, the ambitious national bus strategy, published last year.
