Funding has been secured from the Department of Work and Pensions Flexible Support Fund to extend the Workshop youth hub project by a further 12 months.
The Workshop aims to deliver support to young people aged 18 to 24 living in Surrey Heath. It works closely with employment support providers, local businesses, local organisations and charities to offer young job seekers opportunities to improve their employment skills, and overcome barriers to employment.
Additionally, The Workshop collaborates with local businesses and organisations to deliver career-style events, skills workshops and webinars to further the prospects of the service users and to demonstrate employment and learning opportunities available in Surrey Heath.
So far 80 young people have gained employment through the service, and many others have gained skills and confidence to help them get nearer to this goal.
Cllr Shaun Garrett, Deputy Leader and Economic Development and Transformation Portfolio Holder said;
“This is great news for young people in Surrey Heath. The Workshop has been very successful providing support and mentoring to enable young people access job opportunities. In its first 11 months, The Workshop has had 215 young people through its doors accessing support and services - equipping them with the skills, tools resources and confidence they need to access employment. This exceeds the target for the original funding agreement with a month of the project still to run. "
