Yesterday I visited the £4m upgrade of the A31/A331 roundabout being delivered by Surrey Highways.
The current phase of the works will provide the new jet lane from the A331 after the roundabout towards the A31 for Guildford bound traffic.
The works will include new signal crossings and improvements so the cyclists and pedestrians using the Christmas Pie cycle route can easily and safely cross the slip road which are currently difficult to cross.
The works will also include resurfacing and new Anti-skid material on the approaches to the signal crossings, the lighting will be upgraded and the drainage improved, the drainage improvements will use SUDS (sustainable urban drainage systems), capturing the storm water from the road, slowing and treating this flow to lessen the impact of storms on the drainage system. The SUDS proposals also include for a Pond / Wetland area which will improve water quality and improve biodiversity
In addition to reduce the amount of time people are impacted we have combined the works with the A31 bridge repair works. Where we are replacing the expansion joints, repairing the sub surface drainage, and resurfacing the bridge decks on the bridges which carry the A31 over the Runfold slip roads.
