In 2019, Surrey County Council pledged to plant 1.2 million trees across the county by 2030 - representing one tree for every resident.
Since then, more than 510,000 trees have been planted. The Council's Cabinet Member for the environment Cllr Marisa Heath said the aim was to meet net zero targets and to make Surrey "as green and beautiful as possible".
On top of this, almost 2,000 metres of new hedgerows were added from November to February, offering valuable habitats for wildlife.
Commenting, Cllr Trefor Hogg, Surrey County Councillor for Camberley East, said:
"I'm very pleased to be able to say that Surrey County Council is now fifty percent of the way to the target of planting 1.2 Million trees by 2030. That's one tree for each inhabitant of Surrey."
Leader of Surrey County Council, Cllr Tim Oliver stated:
"Over 510,000 trees planted throughout Surrey since 2019! Every tree planted helps to improve air quality and biodiversity throughout the county and goes towards the target of Surrey becoming net-zero by 2050! Well done to all involved."
