In response to concerns expressed by Surrey residents on the Mayor of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone proposals, Surrey County Council (SCC) has written to the Mayor of London and TfL.
This letter outlines the intervention measures being taken by Cllr Matt Furniss, SCC Cabinet Member for Transport, Infrastructure and Growth, and Surrey Conservatives to stand up for the county's residents over the Mayor's proposals.
If implemented, Sadiq's ULEZ scheme will make residents across our area poorer and negatively impact local businesses on both sides of London boundary. It also completely disregards the connections between Surrey residents and the communities that form part of the historic county. This will detrimentally impact residents who travel into Greater London for education and employment, as well as accessing vital amenities and services.
Commenting, Cllr Matt Furniss said:
"In response to concerns expressed by Surrey residents on the Mayor of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone proposals, I have written to the Mayor of London to confirm I have instructed Officers to halt any discussions on signage locations or a Section 8 Agreement (Permission to place equipment on Surrey’s Highways) until meaningful mitigation is offered and a constructive conversation had between TfL and Surrey County Council, given the significant concern and opposition the proposed ULEZ expansion has generated in Surrey."
