Surrey Police are asking residents in Surrey Heath to help reduce the number of burglary offences in the county by submitting any video footage and photographs which show suspicious activity via their new online portal.
Police work on an evidence based approach, and by building up a wider picture of suspicious activity across the county, Surrey Police are able to allocate resources more effectively in response that will help to tackle crime. Each piece of information submitted helps feed into Surrey Police's understanding of the bigger burglary picture in the county.
The portal is for circumstances where a no crime has been reported, but the suspicious behaviour could potentially be related to a burglary, theft of a vehicle, or catalytic converter, for example.
What is suspicious activity?
Examples of suspicious activity might include:
- Someone who you may consider to be a trespasser or prowler looking in vehicles or car doors
- Scoping out addresses
- Conducting occupancy checks prior to a burglary
- Burglars look for any opportunity to break into vehicles and homes and find vulnerabilities in security.
