Claims of Surrey Heath being 'bankrupt' debunked by the Council's Section 151 Officer in the House of Commons.
At tonight's Executive Meeting of Surrey Heath Borough Council, the current leadership's claims of the Council being bankrupt were debunked by Cllr Shaun Garrett.
This follows on from the Council's Section 151 Officer taking part in a Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee hearing at the House of Commons last week.
As stated by the independent Section 151 Officer under oath at the committee: "My Council is not in immediate financial distress.
"...Over the past, we have also built-up levels of earmarked reserves for just such a case. This year, we have a balanced budget by use of earmarked, and next year we will have the same situation.
"We have sufficient reserves to takes us through to the end of the four-year period, but it is challenging and some difficult decisions will have to be taken."
This statement is in clear contradiction to the unofficial press release made by the Lib Dem leader, whose previous comments have been far from factually correct and less than transparent with the truth, as stated by the Council's own officers.
