Michael Gove MP is supporting Silver Sunday on 6th October, to celebrate older residents in Surrey Heath and the invaluable contributions they have made and continue to make to our local area.
As part of Silver Sunday, Michael is encouraging local groups, organisations, businesses and communities to come together and tackle loneliness by hosting free and fun events across Surrey Heath.
Silver Sunday is a national event to celebrate older people: a day in the nation’s hearts where older people feel valued and are given new opportunities to get out, keep their minds and bodies active, learn new skills, make new friends and connect with the communities and generations around them.
It is chance for organisations already working with older people to showcase what they do as well as a chance for anyone to make new connections with local older residents. Last year, there were 1,000 fun & free events nationwide and this year the Charity wishes to double its impact with 2,000 events reaching 100,000 older people.
How to get involved:
- Silver Sunday is 6th October 2019 and events are welcomed throughout October
- Visit the Silver Sunday Website for 2019 Resources (including guides, logos, templates, social media assets)
- Please ensure to REGISTER events on the National Map ASAP
Commenting, Michael said:
"When people feel lonely most or all of the time, it can have serious ill effects on their overall health. It is truly heart-breaking that around 200,000 older people have not had a conversation with a friend or relative in more than a month, and Silver Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to bring people together to celebrate older people and to tackle loneliness in our communities, which is so important."
