Today, Cllr Lewis Mears has taken the difficult decision to resign as a Surrey Heath Borough Councillor for the Old Dean Ward.
Lewis was first elected to the Old Dean in May last year, alongside Cllr Shaun Garrett, however, due to being offered a job opportunity abroad, has handed in his formal resignation with immediate effect. With Lewis being one of the youngest serving Councillors at Surrey Heath Borough, in his early twenties, this was a career move that he could not turn down.
This is a loss for ourselves at Surrey Heath Conservative Association, as one Councillor stated, Lewis was a "dedicated and passionate local councillor" for residents on the Old Dean. We wish Lewis all the best in his future endeavours.
Commenting, Lewis said:
"This morning I resigned as Councillor for Old Dean ward. I want to thank all of the fantastic residents of Old Dean and wider for the trust they put in me when I was elected, and for being an amazing community. It's been an honour to serve.
"Cllrs Shaun Garrett and Trefor Hogg have been fantastic colleagues and I want to thank them for their continued hard work and support. Wouldn't have been able to do it without them!"
A by-election will take place to elect a new representative for the Old Dean, with details of the election to follow in due course.
