With National Numeracy Day this week, Michael Gove MP visited three schools across Surrey Heath to see the importance of teaching everyday maths skills from an early age.
National Numeracy Day is an annual event that raises awareness over the importance of numeracy skills, improving how people understand and work with numbers in their day-to-day life – helping to create better opportunities and brighter futures.
Michael visited three schools in the constituency to see how teachers are helping pupils and students to be more confident and competent with using numbers and data.
At Tomlinscote, Frimley, he popped into the new Student Support Hub, which provides vital mental health and well-being support, and had the opportunity to chat to several impressive students from Years 7-10.
Michael then met up with Edward Hawkins, Heatherside and Parkside County Councillor, at Ravenscote Junior School to hear the latest updates from the Head Teacher, Amy Wells. He ended the day with a visit to Woodcote House School in Windlesham where he spoke to around 50 students from Years, 6, 7 and 8 and took part in a Q&A session.
Commenting, Michael said:
