At the Planning Applications Committee of Surrey Heath Borough Council held this evening (Thursday 21st September), two applications came become the committee for consideration.
Application Number: 22/1066/RRM - Princess Royal Barracks, Brunswick Road, Deepcut, GU16 6RN
The planning application received by Surrey Heath Borough Council was from the Secretary of State for Defence, proposing the the provision of allotments, with associated works, on land that previously formed part of the British Army's Princess Royal Barracks.
These works include the provision of natural and semi-natural open space to the Accessible Natural Greenspace Standard (ANGST) and upgrades to the local road network. The allotments and recreation space being proposed would provide landscape enhancements and improved connectivity for the wider local community and new Mindenhurst development.
With the proposed site area being greater than 1 hectare, this application was referred to the Planning Applications Committee for determination, with the Planning Officer Sarita Bishop recommending approval. This was proposed by Cllr Whitcroft and seconded by Cllr Shaun Garrett.

Application Number: 22/1182/FFU - Lawrence Lodge, Old Dean Road, Camberley, GU15 4JY
This application related to the demolition of existing flat blocks at Lawrence Lodge, and the construction of twenty new dwellings, this being made up of thirteen flats and seven houses with associated parking, amenity space and landscaping.
The Planning Officer Duncan Carty recommended approval for this development. This was proposed by Cllr Whitcroft and seconded by Cllr Wheeler.
Voting in favour of the motion to approve: Councillors Betton, MacDonald, O'Mahoney, Wheeler, Whitcroft, Wilson
Voting against the motion to approve: Councillors Ashbery, Garrett, Rowlands, Skipper, Thomson, White
Abstaining: Councillors Glauert, Kang
With the vote therefore being tied, with six voting to approve and six voting against, the casting vote - in line with guidelines - rested with the Lib Dem Chairman of the Planning Applications Committee, Cllr Cliff Betton, who voted to approve.
As stated by Betton, "I would always vote for the status quo, and the status quo was that it was approved, so I'm voting to approve. Casting vote."
