An official opening event for the Normandy Community Shop and Café was held last weekend, with the Lord-Lieutenant, Michael More-Molyneux, cutting the ribbon.
The shop and café opened its door back in the summer and provides a friendly atmosphere for people to come to shop locally or enjoy a tea, coffee or a light bite to eat.
The building has been built thanks to a £570,189 grant from Surrey County Council (SCC) through the Your Fund Surrey’s Large Community Projects Fund, fully backed and supported by Cllr Keith Witham. This was awarded back in November 2021, after local villagers had raised over £90,000 through a community share offer.
The opening event was also attended by several representatives from SCC, including Chair of the Council, Cllr Saj Hussain, and Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and Community Safety, Cllr Denise Turner-Stewart.
Commenting, Cllr Keith Witham said:
"Well done to all involved in the creation of the new Normandy Community Shop and Café, officially opened last weekend by the Lord Lieutenant for Surrey, HM The Kings Official Representative in Surrey. And to Surrey County Council for the 'Your Fund Surrey' grant towards the costs."
