This afternoon, the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Pat Tedder, officially opened the new Community Library at the Pavilion on the Old Dean.
The project to transform the pavilion has been ongoing for sometime, back in 2020 it was in a sorry state of disrepair. Thanks to the efforts of Cllrs Shaun Garrett and Trefor Hogg, and a dedicated team of volunteers, At the old dean rec was set up and transformed the pavilion and playground into a great space for all the local community.
Donations and funding from Surrey Heath Borough Council, including a community rent subsidy, Frimley Fuel Allotments, ODCOG, Accent Housing, Surrey County Council Libraries, Bagshot Library, Crawley Ridge Infant School, Howdens kitchens, Fluently Flooring, Angolds Carpets and Ringway all helped to create the new community space.
Commenting, Michael Gove MP said:
"I was delighted to be at the official opening of the Community Library at the Pavilion in Old Dean this afternoon with Cllrs Lewis Mears, Shaun Garrett, and Trefor Hogg.
"It was wonderful to see how this building has been transformed into such a welcoming place for families in Old Dean to enjoy.
"I would like to say a huge thank you to the brilliant team who made this happen, and for all the generous donations given by businesses, local schools and so many others."
Trefor Hogg added:
"Madame Mayor Councillor Pat Tedder cutting the ribbon for us at the opening of @THEOLDDEANREC Community Library today.
"It has been a long journey, piece by piece getting the derelict pavilion repaired and made usable once more, followed by the amazing transformation At the old dean rec has achieved. A dream come true for me."
