The Local Government Boundary Commission for England is in the process of redrawing electoral divisions for Surrey County Council.
The purpose of these changes is to ensure all 81 Councillors represent about the same number number of electors. This is to provide fairness and accountability for residents in the county so that division arrangements help the Council to work effectivley. The total number of Councillors will remain the same under the current proposals.
A ten-week consultation is set to run until 16th October 2023, and residents and local organisations are being asked by the Commission for your views on the proposals.
Here in our constituency, the proposed changes are relatively minor for the seven divisions:
- Ash division set to increase so as to cover all of Ash Parish
- Camberley East to be realigned to better match the Surrey Heath Borough Council wards of Town, St. Paul's and the Old Dean
- Camberley West to become smaller
- Heatherside and Parkside to increase in size
The three divisions of Lightwater, West End & Bisley, Bagshot, Windlesham & Chobham, and Frimley Green & Mytchett are unaffected by the proposals.
Commenting, Cllr Trefor Hogg, Surrey County Councillor for Camberley East, said:
"Camberley East boundaries are changing a little for the next election to better align with the Borough Ward boundaries.
"The Local Government Boundaries Commission for England has proposed boundary changes for County Council Divisions which will affect the next County Election in 2025. The changes proposed for Surrey Heath are relatively minor."
