The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr. Dan Adams, was joined by Cllr. Valerie Chapman and Cllr. Mike Goodman, to attend the Surrey Straw Switch event at the Square, Camberley.
It is estimated that we use around 4.7 billion plastic straws every year, which end up in landfills and many of which find their way into our oceans. By banning the supply of plastic straws, we can help reduce litter, further protect our environment, and move towards eliminating all avoidable single-use plastic waste.
Commenting, Cllr. Mike Goodman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning at Surrey County Council, said:
"I was proud to support the Surrey Straw Switch event today which is aiming to make Surrey the first plastic straw free county. This is a joint initiative being supported by Surrey County Council. Surrey Heath and Woking are the first Boroughs in the county to launch with others to follow very soon.
"Thank you to Paper Straw Group for leading on this superb project."
