I was reading about the Post Office scandal this week and in particular a Surrey sub-postmaster who was a victim. Seema Mistra from West Byfleet was wrongly jailed for 15 months and she became suicidal until she discovered she was pregnant. Her story is one of resilience and strength but she should never have gone through this.
So I researched further and was shocked to find out that Sir Ed Davey, Liberal Democrat leader, had, according to journalist Andrew Pierce, made £275k working for the legal company that fought the innocent sub-postmasters accused of fraud when he had been the Government minister in charge of post affairs at the time of the scandal. He is currently being accused of ignoring the pleas of those accused to help them.
Ultimately the first priority of any elected person is to protect the electorate from misjustice and Sir Ed should have done more as a minister including taking up meetings with victims immediately. Also I think taking a contract with a law firm which is fighting against the sub-postmasters was an obvious mistake and an insult to the victims. Politics across the board needs cleaning up and no Party is completely innocent of wrong-doing including the Liberals. I want a cleaner political system that gets back the respect of voters.
