A Lib Dem Councillor at Surrey Heath Borough Council has been found in breach of the Council's Code of Conduct after publishing a series of grossly offensive comments on social media.
Cllr Ying Perrett, who represents the West End and Bisley Ward and also serves as a Bisley Parish Cllr, published a series of demeaning social media posts stating that residents who voted, or are considering voting, for the Conservatives have "brains change vegetative" and that once you support the Conservatives, "your brains will cease to function."
The Deputy Monitoring Officer at Surrey Heath Borough Council stated this "appears that a group with protective characteristics in law as well as members of the public may have been offended by this post." In addition, the officer stated this is "contrary to the Council's duty to promote and maintain high standards of conduct", as underpinned by the Nolan Principles.
Despite the Deputy Monitoring Officer stating they would request Cllr Perrett to delete these posts, Cllr Perrett has ignored such and continues to bring the office of the Council into disrepute.
No action has yet been taken by the Lib Dem administration publicly, and Cllr Perrett has yet to issue an apology to residents.
