This summer, Surrey County Council will be improving over 100 roads as part of a £8.5 million highways maintenance programme to help prevent potholes.
Some of the county's busiest roads, including London Road (A30) in Bagshot, Portsmouth Road (A325) in Camberley, Frimley Road (B3411) in Frimley, Tunnel Hill Road in Mytchett, and Aldershot Road (A324) in Pirbright, are set to be made more resilient using surface dressing.
Surface dressing is a cost effective, more environmentally friendly treatment which makes roads safer and prolongs their life by over ten years. The works are set to be carried out by Surrey County Council Highways teams from June to August this year.
Commenting, Director of Highways and Transport at Surrey County Council, Lucy Monie said:
“We understand that the state of our roads continues to be a source of frustration for our residents.
“The increasingly wet weather really impacts our roads – which are some of the busiest in the country. This is why here in Surrey, we’re investing nearly £300m in repairing and improving Surrey’s roads and pavements by 2028.
“This includes our upcoming surface dressing programme which will significantly strengthen many miles of Surrey’s busiest roads and prevent deterioration in years to come. This year’s programme will be the biggest surface dressing programme ever undertaken in Surrey.”
Cllr Trefor Hogg, Surrey County Councillor for Camberley East, said:
"Just part of the massive investment that Surrey is making to improve our roads is an £8.5 million project this summer to renew road surfaces, sealing the small cracks that let in water and then turn into potholes with bitumen plus improving road grip with the crushed stone laid on the bitumen.
"In Surrey Heath we will also see full resurfacing of a large piece of Frimley Road, and the A30 from The Meadows to King's Ride, a new pedestrian crossing to improve safety for school children at The Grove, footpath reconstruction on Portesbery Road, Linkway, Paschal Road, Ash Road (Pirbright). Aldershot Road, Tunnel Hill Road and Old Bisley Road will benefit from bitumen and stone dressing, there are new street lights, replacement traffic lights, and a whole lot more.”
