As part of Surrey County Council's commitment to ensure that no child is left behind, additional resources are being allocated to SEN provisions.
Michael Gove MP and Paul Deach, County Councillor for Deepcut, Mytchett and Frimley Green, visited Portesbery School in Deepcut, who moved into new purpose built facilities back in 2015, to meet with Headteacher Nathan Aspinall and see how the teachers and staff are providing high-quality education for children and young people with severe learning disabilities.
Commenting, Cllr Paul Deach said:
"This afternoon I visited Portesbery School with our MP Michael Gove. I am very proud to have this remarkable state-of-the-art specialist school in the division I represent. Many of the children that attend the school have complex needs and require specialist staff. Clearly many of them have challenges that most of us would not be able to comprehend. Despite this, what is immediately noticeable is how happy and engaged the children are and how much they enjoy coming to school. Also very noticeable, is how highly motivated the staff are and the enthusiasm in which they go about their work.
"My visit to Portesbery School today was one of the most enjoyable things I have done in the constituency for quite a while. A huge thank you to Nathan Aspinall and his incredible staff for their time and to the children who made my week."
Michael added:
"This morning I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the inspiring Portesbery School for young people with severe learning disabilities. The unmatched work ethic, devotion and ambition of the school’s staff is truly admirable."
