The delivery of Mental Health services is a jigsaw puzzle with many parts. In a year one in six of us will face a serious mental health issue where we need help to manage it.
Every few weeks there is a two hour town hall meeting of the various organisations involved in delivering mental health services to discuss issues and the actions we can take to improve our mental health services, make them more joined up and make them more effective. There is also a presentation on one approach that might make a difference.
This week it was the turn of the National Men's Shed charity to talk about what they do and promote the idea of establishing Men's Sheds throughout Surrey. Men’s Sheds are community spaces for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together.
They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, they’re fun. One of the important local provisions we have is the newly established Men's Shed in Camberley. I have helped fund the Camberley Men's Shed and I intend to further support them with capital funding for improvements to the Accessibility of their building out of my Your Fund Surrey Budget.
