Since verge cutting has been taken over by Surrey County Council (SCC), there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of the work, with some of our paths and roads being left in unacceptable state in recent weeks.
Yesterday, the leader of SCC Cllr Tim Oliver was in Surrey Heath and our local councillors were able to raise this issue directly with him. This is being thoroughly investigated by SCC who will be reviewing the work of their contractors, and addressing the complaints raised by ourselves and other residents.
Commenting, Cllr Shaun Garrett said:
"This afternoon myself and Cllr Lewis Mears were able to have a discussion with Leader of Surrey County Council Cllr Tim Oliver on a number of subjects. Our main area of concern this afternoon was the recent issues with verge cutting throughout the Borough but specifically in the Old Dean Ward.
"I am aware of various comments on Old Dean Community Group page today about the state of the paths and roads after todays cut. As I highlighted earlier, until 1st April Surrey Heath cut the verges on behalf of the County Council. They have now taken back the cutting entirely. Whilst this in itself shouldn’t have been an issue the state the our paths and roads have been left is not acceptable.
"Contrary to some comments this has also been an issue in other wards and not just The Old Dean Ward. I know the issue is being looked into at County and obviously we will work with Cllr Trefor Hogg to get this addressed locally moving forward."
