The footbridge over the M3 from Lightwater to Bagshot is being demolished this weekend by National Highways, with the motorway closed between junctions 3 to 4 to allow for the works to be carried out.
There are signed diversion routes in place, with these mostly along the A322, A30 and A331 through Camberley and Bagshot. The M3 will re-open fully at 6am on Monday 11th December 2023.
Commenting, Cllr Paul Deach said:
"As expected, the traffic situation around Surrey Heath was not great in places as a result of the closure of the M3 to enable National Highways to carry out the Bagshot Heath footbridge demolition.
"I rode over to Bagshot Heath to see the demolition... It looks like they are making good progress, and I hope they complete the work to get the M3 open on Monday as scheduled.
"There is the matter of having the bridge rebuilt. I am glad that our MP, Michael Gove, is on the case to ensure National Highways do that as soon as possible.
"I also looked at the M3 from the Maultway Bridge, and I have not seen the M3 so void of vehicles since lockdown."
