The fete started in it's usual fashion with a parade from Fellow Green, with this year's theme being that of super heroes. West End Parish Councillors got stuck in volunteering throughout the day, helping to set-up in the morning, marshal the parade, and Geordie the Parish Clerk, was ever present as the barman.
In addition to the usual stalls, entertainment in the arena, BBQ and bar, the West End Village Society (WEVS) brought along their new life-size, bronze Stag Sculpture that's set to be installed on the Guildford Road, Kerria Way roundabout. The society, formed back in 1973, is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.
Money raised from the fete goes towards supporting the local community, including the village Scouts and Guides groups and the West End Village Football Club.
Tony Henderson, Parish Councillor, said:
"Lovely day at the West End Village fete and happy to help out in a small way marshalling the parade along with Shelly Henderson and fellow Parish Councillors Adrian Page and Gile Lowe. Congratulations to the organisers for another great event."
Commenting, Rebecca Jennings-Evans, County Councillor for Lightwater, West End & Bisley, said:
"What a fabulous day to attend a community event. Had a great time at the West End Village Fete. It was lovely to see so many attending the event and having a great time!
"I got to see the finished Stag Sculpture that is a WEVS project and which I have been happy to donate some of my County Councillor Community Allocation towards. Hoping that it will be installed soon. Would also like to send my congratulations to WEVS on their 50th Anniversary."
