Within the Surrey Heath Parliamentary constituency, lies Army Training Centre (ATC) Pirbright. Here new recruits receive training over a thirteen week training course known as the Common Military Syllabus Future Soldier.
ATC Pirbright has evolved and adapted since Pirbright Camp was first established in 1875. Investing in our Armed Forces and ensuring the United Kingdom's national security has always been a priority for the Conservative Party.
That is why in the Manifesto there is a unwavering commitment to increase spending on defence to 2.5% of GDP by 2030. This will ensure that the United Kingdom remains the largest defence power in Europe. This represents the biggest strengthening in our Armed Forces since the Cold War that will safeguard British interests, our security and cement British leadership in NATO.
Tom Tugendhat joined Ed McGuinness outside of the Camp to speak about this pledge by the Conservatives.
Tom stated:
"It was about twenty five years ago that I drove through that gate and started my training as a soldier, and some things have changed a lot. But one thing that hasn't changed, is the Conservatives commitment to Defence.
"That's why we're committed to 2.5% of GDP on Defence spending."
Commenting, Ed said:
"It was absolutely superb to be joined by my friend Tom Tugendhat this morning on the campaign trail in Pirbright.
"As a fellow veteran, it was great to take tom around the patch and speak to residents and service families."
