Elections are coming up to elect Surrey's Police and Crime Commissioner on 7th May, and Surrey Heath Conservatives have been speaking with residents on the Old Dean about why it's important to back our candidate Charlie Chirico.
The role of a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is to oversee a local police force. They are an elected official to ensure that police meet the needs of the community, set the police budget and objectives, appoint and dismiss the force's Chief Constable, and work with other agencies to prevent and reduce crime.
The role of PCC was first created in 2012 to replace police authorities, and they are elected by the public every four years. This ensures that PCCs are directly accountable to residents and subject to public scrutiny.
Michael Gove MP joined local Councillor Shaun Garrett and others on the campaign trail.
Commenting, Michael said:
"On 7 May, we will once again be voting for our Police and Crime Commissioner here in Surrey, and last weekend I so much enjoyed campaigning in Old Dean in support of the Conservative candidate, Charlie Chirico.
"Charlie is a fantastic, talented and dedicated person."
