Planning Permission for the new four storey Diagnostic and Imaging Centre at Frimley Park was granted on 17th March 2023. The £79 Million new building is going up fast using modern 3D design technologies and modular building techniques.
After the footings had been laid, next was the frame of the corridor that will link the new building to the existing hospital with 127 steels. Then on 27th February Frimley Health started receiving delivery of the 179 modules that will make up the new diagnostic centre.
Today the building is really taking shape. Connected to the conventionally built parts of the existing hospital this is not a throwaway investment by the NHS as some have implied and it will be complemented by a Community Diagnostic Centre in Slough linked with Wexham Park Hospital.
The imaging technology going into the new Diagnostic and Imaging centre will be cutting-edge as well, including the latest MRI, CT and Gamma Camera imaging. The facility, spanning three storeys, will house a specialised breast care diagnostic and outpatient unit, offering streamlined services for patients and will also add 10% bed capacity to the existing hospital.
(NHS Surrey Heartlands also have a Community Diagnostic Centre going into Woking Community Hospital. In all NHS England's Community Diagnostic Centres programme is establishing 160 Centres almost all of which are now open.)
