Chobham Fire Station is to be relocated for a year, to allow for the redevelopment of the station with new modern and updated facilities.
The rebuild will improve the capacity of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), to ensure community safety and address current and emerging risks. During construction, the Chobham Crew and all their equipment will be based at Woking Fire Station. The construction period is due to last for approximately one year.
This relocation follows a project of work carried out by SFRS to establish the most viable location with least impact to communities and staff.
Commenting, Chief Fire Officer at SFRS, Dan Quin, said:
“We are delighted that work will soon be underway to make the necessary improvements to Chobham Fire Station, thanks to the investment of Surrey County Council. The proposed relocation means we can continue to deliver services to the local communities in Chobham and Woking. We will monitor the relocation to ensure that it is working well and having a positive impact on communities.”
Cllr Kevin Deanus, Cabinet Member for Fire and Rescue, and Resilience said:
“The redevelopment of Chobham Fire Station is an important investment. I’d like to thank SFRS staff, residents and the communities of Chobham and Woking for their support with this piece of work.“
Cllr Richard Tear, Surrey County Councillor for Bagshot, Windlesham and Chobham, said:
"Chobham has a long history of which it is rightly proud of having its own fire station and I am delighted to be told that this will continue once the upgrading works for the new, bigger, engine have finished."
