After an incursion by travellers at Chobham Common roundabout car park, the car park will unfortunately have to be temporarily closed for residents so that Surrey County Council contractors can clean the mess left.
Commenting, Mike Goodman, County Councillor for Bagshot, Windlesham and Chobham, said:
"After the travellers moved yesterday they have left the common in a appalling and potentially dangerous state. We made the decision to close the car park to allow contractors to clear up. The clear will start this morning and once it is safe which I am hoping will be by this afternoon we will re-open it. However we will stop the public from going to some areas until further clearing up can be completed.
"I have never seen such an appalling mess left by travellers before and am absolutely disgusted. I am sorry it took so long to remove them and the fact they have moved to Chobham, but we have to act within the law. I am going to be very interested to read the reply to the letter I have written to the chief Constable."
