Over the years, Camberley Judo Club has produced top fighters in judo, with several athletes from the club set to represent their country at the Olympics in Paris this summer.
Judo is martial art that focuses on close-in fighting, with plenty of throwing and grappling techniques used by fighters. Camberley Judo Club, located on the Old Dean, has a balance between a friendly, recreational social judo club and a full-time high performance elite judo training centre.
Commenting, Cllr Shaun Garrett said:
"Thank you to the Camberley Judo Club for the invite to there special event last night. It was a chance to see the three qualifying Olympic hopefuls Ashleigh, Sydnee and John before they travel off to Paris next week. Also was good to speak with Luke who is traveling with Ashley as his coach.
"Unfortunately, due two important Council meetings last night, I wasn't able to stay long to speak with Ashleigh, Sydnee and John. I look forward to watching them on TV in the coming weeks and speaking to them more on there return.
"So lucky to have such a great facility here in Surrey Heath which has produced so many talented Judo stars - keep up the great work!"
Cllr Trefor Hogg added:
"Absolutely brilliant tonight to able to wish our qualifying Olympic Athletes from the Camberley Judo Club all the best for the 2024 Olympics in Paris."
